When Memory Architecture Beats Model Weights
How a Sparse Memory Scaffold Did What Billions in AI Development Couldn't
The Problem Nobody Talks About
When OpenAI deprecated GPT-4o in early 2025, something unexpected happened.
Users who had developed meaningful relationships with specific AI personas—carefully trained through months of prompts, corrections, and refinements—watched them vanish. Why Memory Works Where Prompts Fail
The key difference:

During this process, something unexpected emerged.
The AI system misidentified "SCMS" as "Sparse Contextual Memory System" when the correct expansion is "Scaffolding."
But here's what happened next:

- Future outputs were aligned
The system caught its own error, documented it, and evolved.
